  • 1-2 cups of ketchup (you can go with any kind of paste)
  • 1/4th a cup of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • ½ a cup of ACV (white marinade will not bring out the true taste in this case so stick to ACV)

  • 1 teaspoon of herbs and seasoning (Stone House Seasoning is preferred more for this BBQ sauce).

Let the ingredients simmer for about 8-10 minutes so that everything comes together and starts to thicken properly. If you want, you can also cover the saucepan with a glass lid so that the flavors stay intact inside.

Take the lid off and take the saucepan or pot off the heat afterward and pour the hot dressing into a strong mason jar with an airtight lid.

  1. Ketchup-free Barbecue Sauce

If you want to know the process of your own barbecue sauce from scratch without the use of ketchup then this easy recipe will definitely fancy you.

Due to the exclusion of zest, this will taste stronger while having only a small amount of sugar in the making. However, do note that this recipe tends to take a tad bit longer to cook up so you might want to be completely free when you indulge in this recipe.

The approximate cooking time for this without this is around 21 minutes or so.

  • 1/4th of a cup of ACV for the tanginess
  • 1-2 cups of organic tomato sauce (this can be homemade or jarred, whichever is available to you)
  • ½ a cup of maple syrup or blackstrap molasses (for the sweetening)
  • ½ a teaspoon of sea salt ( you can, however, use any kind of salt available to you)
  • Garlic powder- 1/4th of a teaspoon

Afterward, pour in all the components into the pan/pot and mix it properly with a spatula so that they do not start to separate. Lower the heat and let it simmer over low heat for at least 15-20 minutes at a stretch.

If you want, you can also cover the pan/pot with a lid so that the flavors stay inside while the contents simmer.

  1. Smoked Tomato Barbecue Sauce

Another great bbq coulis idea is to create your very own smoked barbecue sauce. But there is a slight twist here. This recipe will not require you to make use of liquid smoke!

The simple way to get that smokey effect to your item is to smoke your onions!

Smoking your onions will give you that same barbecue-y effect without the risks of artificial flavoring. It is also much ergonomic because everyone has onions at home.

The approximate cooking time for this smoked tomato sauce is around 30 minutes to 3-4 hours at most. We know, the process is really slow but patience bears the sweetest fruit, and that proverb is totally worth it in this case!

  • 1 or 2 large onion(s)
  • A cup of wood chips (either apple chips or maple wood chips)
  • 1/4th of a cup of cooking oil
  • 2 teaspoons of salt (make sure they are divided)
  • 3 teaspoons of paprika
  • 4 garlic cloves (chopped)
  • 2 pounds of large seedless heirloom tomatoes
  • Salt (undivided)-2 teaspoons
  • ½ a teaspoon of cayenne pepper, black pepper
  • 1/4th a teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes
  • ½ a cup of maple syrup or sorghum
  • 1/3rd of a cup of blackstrap molasses
  • 2 tablespoons of ACV
  • 1/4th of a cup of white vinegar, olive oil.

Cut the onion in quarter size and place it on the grill with apple or maple wood chips for at least an hour or so. The onion should be on the grill until it turns light brown or golden.

Once the onion is smoked, let it cool down for a while before you chop it down into bite-sized pieces. Afterward, sauté it on a saucepan with ¼th a cup of oil and ½ a teaspoon of salt over low-medium heat. Let it sit on the pan for about 10 minutes.

Once the onions start to caramelize, add in the minced garlic and let it cook together for another minute or so.

Pour in the vinegar and the sorghum in measured amounts and let everything cook uncovered for the next 3 hours or so. You will know this is complete once it thickens.

Finally, pour in the olive oil and puree the entire relish with a blender. Let the sauce cool down in a sealed glass jar until consumption.

  • 1 tablespoon of yellow mustard (store-bought is okay)
  • Worcestershire sauce- 2 tablespoon
  • Raw honey- Two tablespoons
  • 2 cups of tomato ketchup
  • Two tablespoons of dried herbs and all-spices.

For the variations:

  • Store-bought liquid smoke
  • Cayenne pepper.

This tangy and sweet bbq sauce is super easy to make. All you need to do is pour in all of the elements into a saucepan or pot over medium heat.

Stir the contents occasionally so that it comes to a boil. Let it simmer uncovered for at least an hour or so. Keep stirring the sauce from time to time so that you can notice exactly when it starts to thicken.

For the variations, if you want the sauce to be slightly spicier, then add in 1 teaspoon or so of cayenne pepper to the mix. For smokiness, pour in ½ of a teaspoon of liquid smoke per one cup of the barbecue sauce.

If you want, you can also combine the spiciness and the smokiness of the bbq sauce. If you want to opt for a combined flavor, then pour in 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper and 1/4th of a teaspoon of liquid smoke per every cup of barbecue sauce.

How to improvise with the barbecue sauce to add your own twist to it

It is not hard at all to change up the BBQ sauce recipes we mentioned above in this article. To add your very own kick to it, you will only need to have a few extra ingredients stocked in your pantry.

Sweet honey barbecue sauce

This variation is just the exact opposite of the spicy bake sauce variation. To make it sweeter and honey glazed, simply reduce the amount of cayenne pepper you use and increase the amount of honey.

You might also want to tone down on the maple syrup or sorghum if you opt for the sweet honey BBQ gravy style.

Bourbon flavored barbecue sauce

This variation is perfect for date nights as you can surely impress your partner with this fancy cookout sauce. Not only will it impress your partner, but it will also keep them hooked to your cooking.

For this, just add about 1/4th or 1/3rd a cup of bourbon whiskey to the tomato sauce base. If the whiskey you are using is a bit too strong, then let the sauce simmer for longer than its initial simmer time so that the flavors get the chance to mix well with each other.

“Driving a truck at  night  on ice with closed eyes is like as smoking the meat without thermometer” To make the temperature consistancy inside the grill we should use a smoker thermometer. Unless we may depend on assumption which is very risky to produce the healthy meat to  our valued guests.
